How to Fertilize Your Lawn

lawn-care-products

A lovely lush lawn doesn't just happen on its own those hungry spring grasses need waking up give them the nutrition they need with a good feeding.

To do the job right you need fertilizer and a sturdy broadcast spreader. How much fertilizer you need depends on the size of your lawn. A good rule of thumb is one-pound covers 100 square feet of grass.

How often you fertilize depends on three variables climate, grass type and which fertilizer you use. Each type of grass has its own growing season and therefore a different fertilization schedule.

Before you begin it's best to know whether you have cool season grass or warm-season grass. There are many different types of fertilizer available liquid, granular and organic are quite popular. If used properly with the spreader granular fertilizer provides concentrated coverage for beautiful results. These three numbers indicate the percentages of nitrogen phosphorus and potassium in the mix. A safe choice for most grasses in spring is one with a 20/20 10 mixture.

It's important that you use a quality broadcast spreader. Set the gauge on the spreader according to the label on your fertilizer bag. To distribute walk in a moderate pace which is about three miles per hour. Start by distributing around the perimeter of your lawn then cover in diagonal rows being careful to retrace one line of wheel tracks. With the right care and feeding your spring lawn will emerge beautifully in no time. Shop our lawn and garden care products online or in-store.
